CBSS Guidelines and Standards

At CBSS, we build survival concrete shelters and bunkers that exceed global safety requirements. Our designs adhere to Swiss, EU, NATO, and ISO safety and engineering guidelines, ensuring maximum resilience in civil, military, and high-risk security scenarios. 

1. Structural Design & Engineering

1.1 Load-Bearing Capacity & Structural Integrity

  • Shelters comply with Swiss Civil Protection Load Bearing (SCP-LB) requirements, ensuring structures can withstand blast pressures of at least 300 kN/m².
  • Reinforced monolithic concrete walls, minimum 30cm thick, reinforced with steel (B500B rebar).
  • Shrinkage control via expansion joints and polymer-modified shrinkage-resistant concrete.

1.2 Blast Resistance & Shock Absorption

  • Blast doors are capable of withstanding at least 500 kN of peak pressure.
  • Multi-layered protection system, including shock-mitigating layers.

2. Ventilation & Air Filtration

2.1 CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear) Protection

  • Installation of NBC (Nuclear-Biological-Chemical) air filtration systems compliant with Swiss TWW 2012 standards.
  • We provide redundant air supply systems capable of operating at 50% failure capacity.
  • W use HEPA and activated carbon filtration (minimum 99.97% efficiency at 0.3 microns).
  • Filtered overpressure system (10–30 Pa) to prevent contaminated air ingress.

2.2 Thermal Insulation & Climate Control

  • Compliance with Swiss Energy Act and Minergie energy efficiency requirements.
  • Heat and humidity regulation via integrated air exchange and thermal insulation.
  • Passive cooling walls to minimize heat buildup.
  • Hydronic heating systems for temperature control.

2.3 Air Exchange & Ventilation Redundancy

  • Emergency hand-cranked ventilation backup system.
  • Ventilation capacity: minimum 30 m³/h per person.
  • Airlock system to prevent contamination during entry.

  • EN 149:2001+A1:2009 – Standards for high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration.
  • European Ventilation Systems Compliance (ISO 16890 & EN 779:2012) – Clean air management under all hazard scenarios.

3. Power & Energy Resilience

3.1 Generator & Power Backup Requirements

  • Diesel or dual-fuel generators, conforming to Swiss TWS bunker energy provisions.
  • Minimum 48-hour uninterrupted operation capacity.
  • EMP-resistant cabling and surge protection.
  • Battery backup system with minimum 24-hour lifespan.
  • Integration of solar hybrid energy sources for sustainability.

4.2 Security Measures & Surveillance

  • Hardened surveillance cameras with EMP-resistant shielding.

  • Compliance with Swiss security standards for high-risk installations.

4.3 Key International Standards

5. Water, Waste, & Sanitation

5.1 Water Storage & Purification

  • Fire-resistant materials rated F90 (90 minutes of protection at 1,000°C).
  • Automatic dry powder fire suppression system in key areas.
  • Fire-resistant storage compartments for fuel and hazardous materials.

6.2 Escape & Rescue Planning

  • Multiple emergency exits with blast-resistant shielding.
  • Backup rope-access egress systems for extreme contingencies.
  • Underground escape tunnels in compliance with Swiss TWS safety codes.

6.3 Key International Standards

  • EN 13501-1 Fire Resistance Standards – Flame-retardant construction materials.
  • ISO 23932:2020 – Fire safety engineering principles for underground structures.
